First United Methodist is the host church of this year’s Community Vacation Bible School held Sunday through Thursday, July 22-26. VBS time is from 6 to 8 p.m. and it is open to youth from age 4 through fifth grade.
The VBS theme “Game On!” focuses on gearing up for life’s big game from 2 Peter 1:3. First United Methodist is located at 116 Church St., across from the Bluffton elementary.
Bluffton University has named Kaylea Jachno as head track and field coach and coordinator of cross country and track and field programs.
Jachno comes to Bluffton after serving for the prior two years as assistant track and field and cross country coach at Manchester University in North Manchester, Ind. In 2016, she served as an interim assistant coach at Indiana Tech University in Fort Wayne, Ind.
With six years of coaching experience, she has significant understanding of recruiting, athletics operations, and player training and development. She will start July 9.
Suter's Produce, Pandora, now has sweet corn, according to Jerry Suter.
The sweet corn, picked daily, is available in several are outlets:
• State Route 103 near I-75
• Bluffton Farmers' Market (Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to noon)
• Rodabaugh Brothers Meats, Pandora, Basinger Road (Road 5)
Customers will also find tomatoes and peaches at the red stands. Watch for melons coming soon.
Tommy Tire's customer appreciation day is from noon to 5 p.m., Friday, July 20, at the 319 N. Main St., Bluffton location, according to Tom Dotson.
As in previous years, the event includes an exotic animal exhibit from Jungle island Zoo.
New this year is a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. served by the A to Z Meats food truck. In addition, free homemade ice cream from Lugibihl's will be served.

FROM ADA ICON - Cars were polished to the max at the 12th annual car show held on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the County Line Church of the Brethren.
Car owners were glad to talk about their “beauties” and relate some history of their cars. There was music and a chicken BBQ, as well. The youngsters enjoyed a bounce house and the Church’s playground equipment.
With 115 swimmers, Bluffton’s Sardines have high expectations for a top-team finish at the Western Ohio Aquatics League championships July 13-14 at the Wapakoneta city pool.
The eight teams make up the WOAL are from Ada, Bluffton, Kenton, Shawnee, Sherwood/Lima, VanWert, Wapakoneta, and Westside/Lima.
“The Bluffton Sardines have grown into a very competitive swim program and we have high hopes for a strong showing at the WOAL championship meet this year,” said Bob Verb, head coach.
William M. Gaines III, 70, died July 8, 2018, in Grove City, Ohio. Bill was born March 12, 1948, in Dayton to the late William and Leona (Furay) Gaines. On Sept. 6, 1969, he married Brenda Ferguson Gaines who survives.
