And, VFW Cruz-N-Ada on Saturday

FROM ADA ICON - Ada’s Sidewalk Sales will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a big Cruz-N-Ada car and truck show slated for Saturday.

Offering bargains, most local retail merchants will be open from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. those three days. Restaurants, of course, will be open later for dinner.

America in Bloom judges will visit the community

America in Bloom judges will check out the community on Thursday and Friday as Bluffton enters its second year in the national competition, according to Susie Stratton.

In 2017 Bluffton was winner of the America in Bloom Outstanding Achievement Award in the Urban Forestry Award. Bluffton also received a special mention recognizing the village floral displays.

It will be a busy two days for judges. Here’s a brief overview of their itinerary.

Four Bluffton swimmers - Riley Verb, Jackson Bowlus, Jenna Downey, June Essinger

Four local swimmers will compete at the Ohio Junior Olympics long course championship meet July 19-22 in Oxford, Ohio, at Miami University.

They will represent the Lima Y USA Swimming team, and the Putnam County USA Swimming Team. All four swimmers are students in the Bluffton school district.

The Inn at ONU has two events planned this week. Persons interested should RSVP to the Inn at 419-772-2500.

Pirate and Mermaid Party

The afternoon includes family activities and a photo opportunity based on a pirate-mermaid theme. The drink menu includes ocean water blue, raspberry lemonades, pirate gold lemonade and Blackbeard’s brewed ice team.

Cost is $32 for one adult and one child under 13. Additional guests are $18 per adult and $8 per child.

Will contain four suites available by November

A professional office building, Skyward Realty, LLC, is under construction this summer on State Route 103, according to Greg Smith, property owner.

The building is directly west of Schoolhouse Electronics, also owned by Smith.

“When finished it will have four units. One is already leased and the other three are still available,” said Smith. 

And, bowling balls will be running

Perhaps it’s the heat.

Whatever it is, the boys at Southgate Lanes – Derek Dukes and Brandon Falk - devised the ultimate race and it is Saturday. It even has a name: Summerfest’s 1-K.*

Registration for the fall underway now at BFR

NFL flag football sign-up is underway at Bluffton Family Recreation, according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

Games are for youth ages 5 to 7. Registration deadline is Aug. 26. Games are played on Saturdays at BFR from Sept. 8 to Oct. 13.

Registration is $35 for BFR members and $70 for non-members. Contact BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, 419-358-4150 or go online to register.

Weekend of BHS homecoming

The Bluffton High School classes of 2000 and 2001 will hold a joint class reunion on Friday, Sept. 28.

Starting at 5:30 p.m. there will be a family-friendly tailgate during the high school homecoming parade, in the parking lot between the Citizens National Bank and the post office.

The Four Deuces Car Club will host its 4th Annual Cruise In at Hilty Home in the front parking lot on Thursday, July 19, from 6-8 p.m.  Hilty Home is located at 304 Hilty Drive, Pandora.

The event is open to the public and will feature vintage automobiles as well as food and music.  Admission is free.
