Indoor Summerfest events will continue Saturday at Southgate Lanes

Blame it on the weather.

The first-ever Summerfest 1-K is rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18, according to Derek Dukes and Brandon Falk of Southgate Lanes. The race was originally scheduled for this Saturday.

In addition, the dogeball tournament, planned for outside, is moved to August. Watch for details.

Summerfest events continuing Saturday include the Bubba C BBQ truck and other indoor events. The bowling alley, 9700 Dixie Highway, Bluffton, will be open from noon to midnight.

Most Americans feel strongly about getting big and dark money out of politics. A recent survey on democracy found that 77 percent agreed that “the laws enacted by our national government these days mostly reflect what powerful special interests and their lobbyists want.”  Only 17 percent chose the alternative statement: “The laws enacted by our national government these days mostly reflect what the people want.”  

Season from Aug. 28 to Oct. 4

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for fall U6 soccer, according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

U6 is for youth ages 4, 5 and 6. Cost is $30 for BFR members and $60 for others. All games are played at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, from Aug. 28 through Oct. 4.

Game nights are 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. To registered go online or call BFR at 419-358-4150.

Katie Keifer, a newly certified Jazzercise instructor, has begun teaching classes in Bluffton.

Keifer recently completed all the training required to bring the expertise, energy and excitement to the dance floor. New classes will be added to the Bluffton and Findlay locations following this news.

Prospecting instructors begin with an application process that eventually pairs you with a mentor to help you through the training.

Serving at Bluffton Sportsmen's Club

The Bluffton Cattle 4-H Club will hold a chicken barbecue fundraiser this weekend.

The barbecue is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, July 22, at the Bluffton Sportsmen's Club, 405 N. Spring St., across from the Buckeye quarry. Tickets are $8 each. Pre-orders are available by calling Jason at 419-889-0237 by Friday.

Walk-in orders are available as the supply of dinners is available. Each meal includes a one-half chicken, baked potato, green beans and a dinner roll.

Persons may dine in or carry out.

It's all part of Tommy Tire customer appreciation day on Friday

Exotic animals, free homemade ice cream and a free lunch.

Tommy Tire's customer appreciation day is from noon to 5 p.m., Friday, July 20, at the 319 N. Main St., Bluffton location, according to Tom Dotson.

As in previous years, the event includes an exotic animal exhibit from Jungle island Zoo.

New this year is a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. served by the A to Z Meats food truck. In addition, free homemade ice cream from Lugibihl's will be served.

Bluffton Child Development Center, 325 County Line Road, Bluffton, is now accepting students for its fall preschool and pre-Kindergarten program, according to Francine Donathan, director.

She said that the available sports are filling up quickly.

Bentley Road I-75 northbound ramp will close for five days

The following Interstate 75 ramps in Allen County will be affected by a concrete pavement and ramp repair project. Work is being performed by Shelly and Sands, Zanesville.

Interstate 75 northbound exit ramp to Bentley Road, Bluffton, will close Monday, July 23, for approximately five days. Traffic will be detoured onto I-75 northbound and state Route 103 back to Bentley Road.

Ohio Department of Transportation announced the following local road project that will take place the week of July 23?

State Route 103 between the village of Bluffton and state Route 698 will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for work being done in preparation for a chip seal project. Work is being performed by the ODOT Hancock County maintenance garage.
