Bluffton High School Senior Luke Young has been named second team All-Ohio in boys' soccer. The speedy forward was a fearless playmaker for the Pirate boys' team.  

Young is the third Pirate in as many seasons to garner all-state honors.  He also continues a legacy of Pirate soccer players being recognized for their on field all-state accomplishments: 

Bluffton Area Ministerial Association (BAMA) will hold its community Thanksgiving Worship service Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Senior Citizens Center community meal.

The meal, provided by First United Methodist Church, takes place at 6 p.m. The Thanksgiving service follows the meal. All members of the community are invited to attend.

Jan Goodger, former part-time teacher at Trinity Lutheran School, Jenera, and wife of Arnold Goodger, teacher of Grades 5 and 6 at Trinity from 1979-1986, was died on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, after a short illness. 

Janice Louise (Breitenfield) Goodger, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was born on Dec. 21, 1950, in Tomah, Wisconsin, to Victor and Lydia Breitenfield.  She graduated from Luther High School in Onalaska, Wisconsin, in 1969, and from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, in 1974.

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO) held its annual Longevity Dinner on Nov. 8 at Maple Crest.  Each year, MHCO honors employees who have reached five or more years with the organization (in five-year increments).  Laura Voth, CEO, served as emcee for the evening.

Ada historian, Lee Crouse, provides the Ada Icon with historical photos. The Ada Icon shares this interesting story with Bluffton viewers.

From the 1920s to the 1940s the ZoRoLo company, located on East Buckeye Avenue, back of the Liberty bank in Ada, made a product to cure arthritis.

The first and second floors of the building were used for and office and as a place to hold vats in which the formula was mixed, placed in gallon containers, and shipped to places in the United States.

Vicki J. Watkins, 64, died Nov. 9, 2018, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.  Vicki was born Dec. 29, 1953, in Bluffton, to Don and Ilo (VanScoder) Martin who survive. On May 14, 1983 she married Mark Watkins who survives.

Vicki worked in the cafeteria at Pandora-Gilboa High School.  She was a member of the Pandora United Methodist Church.  Vicki enjoyed cooking, camping and was a graduate of Pandora-Gilboa High School. 

First time listing for Bluffton’s holiday lights

For the first time, the Ohio Holiday Lights Trail will lead travelers to Bluffton’s Blaze of Lights, which includes the Ream folk art display, downtown holiday lights, and residential lights.

Bluffton's return to the Heartland Conference tournament in 2017-18 after a two-year hiatus has the Beavers excited to hit the hardwood when the season kicks off on November 16. Gone is All-HCAC point guard Kevin Christie who poured in 17.7 PPG to go along with his team-best 116 assists, but a freshmen crew that jumped into the fray right away is ready to show that last year was far from a fluke as Head Coach Guy Neal gears up for year 30 at the helm!

11 a.m. to 2 p.m., ribbon cutting, refreshments, giveaways, tours

First National Bank hosts a grand re-opening of its Bluffton branch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, according to Todd Mason, president and CEO.

The festivities will start at 11 a.m. with a ribbon cutting and presentation followed by light hors d'oeuvres, cake, giveaways. Guests will also be able to take a tour of the updated branch.

The branch remodel included new paint and flooring and seating area, the addition of a conference room for community use, an additional office and another secluded customer meeting area.
