Letter to the Editor:

The picture of Alivia Koenig's shooting the second of her 2 free throws with 1.4 seconds remaining is a tremendous sports picture.  I have been around athletics for a long time, and this picture is one of the greatest sports photo I have ever seen.  With the ball in the air, and the picture of the full scoreboard in the background, the entire story is captured.  I congratulate Carl Wilkerson for shooting such a timely, action picture.

Ranging from bluegrass to gospel

The next Bluffton Town Hall concert series includes old-time folk musicians performing in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 30. The performance is in the town hall, 154 N. Main St. and is free and open to the public. A free-will donation is accepted at the door.

The Matchsellers will perform various regional musical styles including bluegrass, old-time fiddle, hambone, fiddlesticks Cajun and gospel.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE AT BOTTOM OF STORY -

The First Mennonite Church senior high youth will hold a Blau Rock Café on Saturday, March 30, from 3-7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of FMC, 101 S. Jackson St.

Guests may come and go as schedules allow. This event is a coffeehouse featuring a blend of music, readings, drama and jokes. There will also be a silent auction throughout the event. Both cafe and auction are open to the community.

Power 2019 U.S. Full Service Investor Satisfaction Study(SM), the firm recently announced, according to Brandon D. Blackford, Edward Jones financial advisor in the Bluffton office.

Verla E. Diller, 93, of Bluffton died March 18, 2019, at Lima Memorial Heatlh System. 

Services will begin at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, March 24, at Pandora Missionary Church. 

Visitation will be Saturday from 3 – 8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton, and one hour prior to the service at the church. 

Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday at Maple Grove Cemetery in Bluffton.  Arrangments are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

John Klassen, 1971 Bluffton graduate and grandson of John Peter Klassen, will present “The John P. Klassen Legacy: Images and Stories of Peace” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, in the Kreider Room of Marbeck Center.

Klassen will explore the commitment to peace reflected in his grandfather’s life and art, including family stories that illustrate the vision of peace motivating his work.

A memorial service for Helen Hilty, who died Jan. 18, 2019, will be at 11 a.m., on Friday, April 12, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Bluffton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Karol Farris will officiating.

Private family interment will be held on April 11, at Campbell Cemetery, Columbus Grove.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Putnam County District Library-Columbus Grove Branch, the Bluffton Presbyterian Church or the Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio.

Some heavy lifting on Saturday for Bluffton team

The Bluffton Powerlifters competed at  the powerlifing state meet on March 16 at Kenton High School. The team took 5th place, lifting a total of 4,000 pounds. CLICK HERE for Amy Mortimer's photos.

Here are their individual results:

• Arielle O'Neal - Squat 345, Bench 165, Deadlift 400 - tied with the record Deadlift in unlimited weight class

• Shyanne Mortimer - Squat 245, Bench 140, Deadlift 330 - 1st place in 155 pound weight class

The following is highway construction scheduled to occur within Allen County. Work is dependent upon weather conditions, and unless otherwise noted, it will take place during daytime hours.

Interstate 75 northbound between Napoleon Road and state Route 696, Beaverdam, will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for guardrail and cable rail repair on Tuesday, March 19. Work is being performed by the ODOT District 1 roadway services department.
