The Al Best Band will play at a free public concert on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton.
MMH has hosted the annual “Concert on the Lawn” since 2005. The Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio Service Group will serve ice cream, and popcorn and ice water will also be available.
Special thanks is given to Don Snyder Excavating, who is the main sponsor of this year’s concert. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and dress for the weather.

Ryan DeMarco was born in upstate New York, but grew up in Champaign County, Ohio. He's now settled in Bluffton, is married to Alicia (Evilsizor) and they have three children, Micah (age 8), Noah (age 6), and Hannah (age 4).
Where did you go to school and what have you been up to?
I graduated from St. Paris Graham High School in 2000, and enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard shortly before graduation. I was Honorably Discharged in 2010.
I just wanted to say a big "Thank You" for the impressively quick work the workers employed by the Village did yesterday morning. A handful of Geiger Street residents woke up without running water yesterday (Tuesday, Aug. 13), and the Village was already on the scene at 7 a.m. The broken water line was repaired and finished by 10 a.m. I couldn't be more impressed with the level of efficiency and service provided.
Ryan Burkholder, Bluffton police chief, provided the Icon with a letter concerning break-ins of several Bluffton businesses that occurred on July 25.
His letter follows:
On July 25, 2019, several businesses were broken into. We are currently investigating several leads. Details associated with this ongoing investigation cannot be released at this time, however. I assure you that when details can be released, they will be.

The library is hosting two First Day of School Storytimes to celebrate the start of school - on Monday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. Please register for this event.
Those questions will be answered after 5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, as Bluffton elementary class lists for 2019-20 will be posted on the front doors of the elementy building.

CELINA - The Bluffton girls tennis team lost its season-opening match at Celina Monday by a 4-1 count.
Erin Hotmire posted the lone Lady Pirate win at first singles with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory over Gracie Gabes.
Bluffton's Olivia Barnes suffered a tough 6-4, 6-4 defeat at second singles. Pirate Julia Smallcomb lost a close three-setter at third singles 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Pearl Lewandowski and Ellison Pugsley lost in straight sets at number one doubles.
Abbey Miles, daughter of James and Kathy Miles, earned Outstanding of the Day at the Ohio State Fair with her Purrfect Pets project. She is a member of The Blue Ribbon Stock 4H Club.
