The Bluffton Writers Group will now meet at 5:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at Maple Crest, Augsburger Road, Bluffton. Victoria Woods-Yee is the leader and contact person of the group. Contact Victoria at [email protected] for more information. New members are welcome.

Don't forget the pickelball tournament Feb. 16

The next Bluffton Family Recreation off the wall coed softball tournament is Saturday, Feb. 29. It is for four men and two women per team. Registration deadline is one week before each tournament.

A Sunday, Feb. 16, pickleball tournament is also on the calendar. It has the following divisions:
• Men's and women's singles
• Men's and women's doubles
• Mixed doubles
Deadline to register is Sunday, Feb. 9.

Feb. 6 & Feb. 20 at 6 p.m.

Two community meals are planned for February at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main St.

The meals are:

• Thursday, Feb. 6, provided by Bluffton Lions Club

• Thursday, Feb. 20, provided by Bluffton Presbyterian Church

Meals are at 6 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Donations to the Bluffton food pantry are accepted.

Families welcome, and kids usually get served first.

The contest is now accepting entries. The contest includes multi-choice questions, so you can enter even if you don’t have a clue about this year’s movies.

Beaver track and field team at ONU

The Bluffton University Track and Field team traveled to Ohio Northern University for the 2nd week in a row on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Saturday was another good meet for the Beavers. Bluffton's school record for the long jump was broken for the 2nd straight week in a row. Freshman Caitlyn Renner (Cairo/Bath) eclipsed her own school record by .01 meters, giving her a distance of 5.08 meters. This keeps her at the top of the conference competition in the long jump. Senior Ciana Hostetler (Sugarcreek/Garaway) also competed in the long jump and produced a personal best.

Men and women’s teams stop Grizzlys

The Bluffton University women's basketball team welcomed Franklin College to town on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, for Alumni Day. The Beavers were able to hold off a tough Grizzly team, 66-56. Bluffton improved to 10-9 (4-8 HCAC) while Franklin slipped to 11-7 (7-5 HCAC).

Dr. Melissa Friesen, art, communication and theatre department chair, and Dr. Walt Paquin, director of social work program, will share “Arts-based Civic Practice and Learning in Community,” during a Colloquium presentation at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7 in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.

Only 200 tickets available

Bluffton’s first-ever downtown chocolate walk takes place from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, sponsored by the Bluffton downtown merchants.

The event is limited to 200 tickets. Tickets are $10 each. Each ticket holder will be eligible for a free chocolate treat at each participating merchants.
