Where was the first school building? What became of it? The answers may surprise you

We naturally take for granted that there was always a school system in our community.

But, have you ever wondered how it was first organized? Where were the buildings? What became of them? How did we end with two buildings, now an elementary and middle school on Jackson Street and a high school on Jackson and College Avenue.

We’ll provide the long answer to these questions, and it will take several columns to complete  the story.

Unfortunately, many people have also experienced this with their recommended health screening examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic. For many reasons, routine screening examinations may have been postponed, cancelled or rescheduled.

But, a giant leap from last year's covid-19 infested slow start

Bluffton’s 2021’s first quarter experienced $389,013 in building permit total figures on 11 permits filed with the village, according to Bryan Lloyd, assistant village administrator.

This is a giant leap from last year’s first-quarter covid-19 infested period, which saw four permits totally $84,804.

However, it is a far cry from the first quarter of 2019, which totaled $531,200 and $2018, which totaled $11.8 million. In 2018, GROB had a $10 building program.

Breaking down 2021 permits find one house, one accessory building plus several small projects.
