The host Bluffton girls soccer team dominated Northwest Conference foe Crestview 10-1 Tuesday night, September 7, at Steinmetz Field.

The Lady Pirate kickers improved to 4-2 and 2-0 in the NWC after the lopsided league victory. The Lady Knights fell to 3-2 (0-1 NWC) with the defeat.

Allison Diller netted four goals to pace the offensive onslaught. Reagan Mittendorf and Jordan Schweingruber each tallied a pair of scores.

Schweingruber scored the first goal four minutes into the fray. Diller made it 2-0 with a goal in the 11th minute off a Sami Scoles assist. 

The following letter was issued in August 2021 by 17 Putnam County physicians and nurses, including several that practice in the Village of Bluffton.

Back to school time! We are celebrating the beginning of another school year in person. The question on many minds is whether or not masks are necessary in our schools. And politics aside, all of us, parents, school administrators and staff, grandparents, and all champions of children, have just one concern: What is best for the kids?

Troy Warren Caskie, 31, of Ada passed away September 6, 2021 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. Troy was born October 11, 1989 in Bluffton to Dan and Renee (Moser) Caskie. On August 1, 2009 he married Jessie Melton Caskie.

Troy was a graduate of Cory-Rawson High School and worked for J & D Snyder Excavating, Bluffton. Troy was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Bluffton. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, playing corn hole and was a "Grill Master" in training. Troy was a family man whose greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family.

Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 8375 Phillips Rd, rural Bluffton, will observe the 160th anniversary of its affiliation with what is now the United Church of Christ on Sunday, Sept. 12.

Commemorating the occasion with its annual Rally Day at the church, the congregation will dedicate 160 (or more) school kits to Church World Services, which supplies kits to areas of need throughout the world. For example, in the United States there currently are several disaster areas where school kits may be needed.

Women's Golf Results

The Bluffton University women's golf team played for the third straight day on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021. Following two days at Denison, Coach Craig changed up the lineup for the Labor Day event at Colonial Golf Club. The Beavers finished with a 413 on Monday, besting rival Defiance by three strokes.

The Bluffton University men's soccer team scored early and often in a 5-1 defeat of visiting Emory and Henry team on a beautiful Monday, Sept. 6, 2021. 

Sophomore Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) collected a feed from senior Jacob Kiger (Groveport/St. Charles Prep) just over a minute into the contest and put the home team on top. Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) made it 2-0 midway through the first half before Britton Boyle (MIddletown) notched his first collegiate tally following a ricochet off the crossbar from Brandon DeCoursey (Bruceville, IN/North Knox) in minute 42.

The Beaverdam Richland Fire & EMS, 201 W Main St, will host a drive through meal on Saturday, September 11 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Betty Carol Glick, 78, of rural Jenera, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on July 30, 2021, in her home of Parkinson's Disease.

Betty was born in Bluffton, Ohio on December 5, 1942 to Eldon P. and Ada H. (Hilty) Lugibihl. She graduated from Bluffton High School in 1960 and the Northwestern School of Commerce in Lima in 1961. She married Jerome C. Glick at Grace Mennonite Church, in Pandora, on November 28, 1965.

Donald (Don) L. Zimmerman D.D.S. 79, of Oak Harbor died peacefully after a long battle with cancer at Stein Hospice of Sandusky on August 18, 2021. He was born February 24,1942 in Bluffton, OH to Oliver and Avonelle Zimmerman. 

Glenna J. Marquart, age 95, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at 12:00 a.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

​She was born on February 10, 1926 in Bluffton, Ohio to the late Howard Swick and Mary Luginbuhl.  On August 17, 1946 Glenna married Robert H. Marquart and he preceded her in death in February of 2003.

​Glenna was the owner and operator of Twin Lakes Campground. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church, Jenera. She was a 1944 graduate of Bluffton High School.
