LIMA⎯The visiting Bluffton High School volleyball team swept Lima Central Catholic in a non-league match Tuesday evening, September 12.

The Lady Pirates improved to 7-2 with the 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 triumph. LCC fell to 2-9 with the loss.

Playing at home, the Bluffton High School boys soccer squad shut out Van Buren 3-0 in a non-conference match Tuesday evening.

The Pirates improved to 3-4-1 with their second straight win. The Knights fell to 2-2-2 with the loss.

Nolan Hoffman netted a goal and assisted on the other two scores to 
pace the victors. Hoffman started the scoring with a goal at the 18:40 mark on an assist from Justin Good.

Landon Novak scored to extend the lead to 2-0 on an assist from Hoffman 34:30 into the fray.

At the September Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce meeting, director Jim Enneking introduced two new chamber members, Bob Gordon-Hancock and Jenny Frankart.

On Saturday, September 17, downtown Ada will forget about business as usual and celebrate the 36th annual Harvest & Herb Festival. This year, 140 different vendors with 160 booths will line Main Street from Quest Federal Credit Union to Ohio Northern University. 

If you are accustomed to parking on Main Street in the wee hours of the morning, note that it will close at 6:00 a.m. and cars may be towed if left in the festival area.

WAYNESFIELD, Ohio⎯Teri Dale Fry, 68, of Waynesfield, Ohio, passed away Sunday September 11, 2022 at her home after recent health problems. Teri was born June 15, 1954 in Lima, Ohio to the late Robert W. Fry and VonDale (Winget) Fry.

Teri lived in her Waynesfield home with her brother Robert “Bobby” Fry Jr. She moved to Westminster from Lima around 1966, attended and graduated from Allen East High School in 1972.

Bluffton University has named Dr. Luke Kleman as Interim Head Swimming and Diving Coach.

Kleman works full time as a physical therapist at Lima Memorial Health System in Lima, Ohio, where he specializes in neurological and vestibular rehabilitation. He is a certified USA Swimming Coach for the Lima YMCA and previously served as a coach for the Putnam County YMCA. Kleman has coached multiple swimmers to the Great Lakes Zones Championship meet.

On Sunday, September 11, 2022, Bluffton Boy Scout troop 256 held an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Daniel Robert Creeger at the Beaverdam Church of Christ.

Attended by family, friends, and scouts of all ages, the ceremony included a presentation of the Scout Oath and Scout Law, presentation of Parent Pins by Daniel, comments on Daniel’s experiences as a scout by Mike Metzger, recognition by the Lima Elks Club and the Eagle Scout Charge conducted by all Eagle Scouts that were present.

Area residents and businesses are invited to the Citizens National Bank Customer Appreciation Day event from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  on Friday, September 16 at the 102 S. Main St. office in Bluffton.

Free lunch from Bubba C BBQ including a sandwich, 2 sides, water and a cookie, will be served in the parking lot, weather permitting. See a CNB employee to receive a coupon for a free meal. Attendees may also enter to win a variety of door prizes.

The newly installed stadium lights at Bluffton University's Alumni Field will be celebrated during the football home opener at 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 17, when the Beavers take on Adrian College.

A dedication ceremony with donors Randy and Debbie Gade will take place during half-time. Randy Gade is a 1973 Bluffton alumnus who competed in Bluffton athletics. The couple live in southern Florida and are retired after selling their company, Accutech Instrumentation Inc.
