Violence is a healthcare issue that destroys the quality of life in communities and all around the world. The consequence of sexual violence creates many complex health issues that require a team of dedicated professionals.

The Board of Commissioners of the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will hold a special Board meeting on Wed. Dec. 7, 2022 at 9:00 am at the Park Conference Room,1682 Slabtown Rd., Lima, OH 45801.

The board will be amending resolutions that passed in October and November for renewal levies that will be on the ballot in spring 2023.

The park district owns and manages Motter Metro Park, 10740 Columbus Grove-Bluffton Rd, Bluffton, a 105 acres park with 1.5 miles of mowed grass trails along Little Riley Creek.

ArtSpace/Lima is announcing the ‘all call’ intake dates for their annual Juried  Photography Exhibition. The entry dates for bringing work to ArtSpace are December  15, 16, and 17, from 10:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Jurying will take place on December 18.

The  exhibit is open to all ages and all types of photography will be accepted. The exhibition  will open on January 6th and stay up until February 7th, 2023. 

Women’s basketball, November 28
CINCINNATI–The Bluffton University women's basketball team kicked off Heartland Conference action with a 73-63 win at Mount St. Joseph on Monday, November 28.

Home opener is Saturday, Dec. 3

The visiting Bluffton High School boys basketball team fell behind big early and lost 63-33 at perennial power Ottawa-Glandorf Friday night, December 2.

The Pirates trailed 25-5 after the first period, and fell behind 36-12 with 3:46 left in the first half.

The Titans led 45-17 at halftime. The hosts stretched the lead to 56-24 heading to the final stanza.

Bluffton fell to 0-2 with the defeat, while O-G improved to 2-0 with the win.

Bluffton University’s music department has announced the soloists for its 128th performance of Handel’s “Messiah,” at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, in Yoder Recital Hall. Soloists are Misook Yun, soprano; Elizabeth Frey, mezzo-soprano; Brian Skoog, tenor; and Max Pivik, bass.

Dr. Bo Young Kang, director of choral activities, will conduct the oratorio. The Bluffton Choral Society including students, faculty, staff and community members will accompany with an orchestra. While tickets are free, space must be reserved at www.bluffton.edu/messiah-tickets. The event will also be streamed live at http://www.bluffton.edu/messiah.

Lyric soprano Misook Yun has been praised as a singer of “exquisite clarity” and “virtuosity.” She has performed in Italy, Austria, Hungary, South Korea and the U.S. An accomplished operatic performer, Yun has appeared in the roles of Mimi from “La Boheme,” Cio Cio San from from “Madame Butterfly” and Nedda from “Pagliacci,” among others.

Dorothy B. Nonnamaker, 90, passed away November 30, 2022 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. Dorothy was born on March 18, 1932 in Celina, Ohio to the late Harry and Adah (Smith) Ellis. She was the second to youngest of ten children.

After graduating from high school, Dorothy moved to Rawson then later to Findlay, Ohio. She was employed by Daisy-Maid Bakery where she met her husband Dean Nonnamaker. They married December 7, 1953 (Pearl Harbor Day) in a chapel in Angola, Indiana.
