Dorothy B. Nonnamaker was married on Pearl Harbor Day
Dorothy B. Nonnamaker, 90, passed away November 30, 2022 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. Dorothy was born on March 18, 1932 in Celina, Ohio to the late Harry and Adah (Smith) Ellis. She was the second to youngest of ten children.
After graduating from high school, Dorothy moved to Rawson then later to Findlay, Ohio. She was employed by Daisy-Maid Bakery where she met her husband Dean Nonnamaker. They married December 7, 1953 (Pearl Harbor Day) in a chapel in Angola, Indiana.
They later moved to Bluffton, Ohio where Dorothy was a homemaker, helped with farming and in later years got parts and ran errands for Dean’s gas station.
Dorothy is survived by two children, Alice (Keith) Bates of Bluffton, Tom (Marcy) Nonnamaker of Fostoria; four grandchildren, Jared (Katie) Zimmerly, Philip (Sharon) Zimmerly, Amy (Jason) Okuly, Katlyn (Daniel) Sheridan; three step-grandchildren, Renee (Travis) Johnston, Rob (Sravanthi) Bates, Erin (Mequel) DeVaughn; seven great-grandchildren, Alivia (Lane) Nitchie, Jake Okuly, Jessy Okuly, Maddison Zimmerly, Casey Zimmerly, Simon Zimmerly and Nora Zimmerly; one great-great-granddaughter, Georgia Nitchie. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Schroder of Midland, Michigan, Margie (Russ) Poor of Hoagland, Indiana.
Dorothy was preceded in death by two sisters, Crystal Sherman, Sarah Granger and five brothers, Chalmer, Orval, Leonard, Vearl and Kenneth Ellis.
Dorothy was involved in the Poinsettia Club and volunteered at Bluffton Hospital for many years. She loved wood-working but most of all, she loved her family and was always so proud of all of them.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Riley Creek Baptist Church, 4950 Township Road 27, Bluffton with Pastor David Lanquist officiating. Burial will follow in Hasson Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary.
