The Bluffton cross country teams competed at the wet Div. III, District 1 meet on Saturday, October 21, in Columbus Grove.

The Bluffton boys finished seventh out of 11 teams in the district meet at Columbus Grove. The girls Bluffton finished eighth out of 10 teams.

Host Grove won the boys team crown with 24 points. New Bremen was second with 58 points, followed by Marion Local (74).

The Bluffton High School football team lost a 14-7 defensive struggle at Columbus Grove in their Northwest Conference showdown for the league crown Friday night, October 20, on the muddy Clymer Stadium grass surface.

Bluffton finished the regular season 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the NWC with the loss to finish second in the league.  

Columbus Grove improved to 8-2 overall and won the outright league crown at 7-0 after the win. CG won its last seven games by outscoring their opposition, 271-55.

It was CG’s 16th all-time NWC crown, tying them with Delphos Jefferson for the most in league annals. Bluffton has won 14 league titles, but none since 2005.  

The Pirate defense had its seven-game shutout streak snapped. They had not allowed a point since a week two 28-21 win over Pandora-Gilboa.

Grove put together a good drive midway through the first period, threatening to score. A third down pass by Landon Best was broken up in the end zone to force a field goal try.

The Evan Verhoff attempt was long enough but sailed just wide right to keep the game scoreless.

Chronic pain can result from a myriad of underlying causes, including injury, illness, or conditions like arthritis and neuropathy. The complexity arises from the fact that often, people with chronic pain have multiple other health ailments that must be navigated and considered.

Bet you didn’t know that a “strange illuminated object” was sighted in rural Bluffton. It occurred one month after a “flying disc” was recovered from a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico, home of one of the most well-known extraterrestrial area  in the United States.

One can only imagine how history might have struck us, had the object crashed in rural Bluffton – no matter what might have been discovered in such a wreck.

WOMEN’S GOLF: Bluffton opens fall finale with 351 at Wittenberg
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio__The Bluffton University women's golf team just beat the darkness, finishing day one of the Wittenberg Fall Classic with a 351 on Sunday, Oct. 15. Playing in same-school fivesomes the first nine took nearly four hours, but Bluffton managed to get out in front of the whistle as three schools will need to finish round one on Monday morning before playing the final 18 holes.

Weather permitting, work will continue on Bluffton roads during the week of October 23, according to ODOT District 1 announcements:

State Route 103, Main St. and Jefferson St. in the village of Bluffton, between Bentley Road and Interstate 75 will have lane restrictions for resurfacing.

State Route 103/Jefferson Streetbetween County Line Road and Commerce Lane in the village of Bluffton will have lane restrictions and shoulder work until mid-December for the construction of a shared-use path. The work includes storm improvements, a sidewalk extension, lighting, and other roadway safety improvements.

Bluffton University Theatre will present the play “Paragon Springs” by Steven Dietz, based on the play “An Enemy of the People” by Henrik Ibsen from November 9-12.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on November 9-11, and at 2:30 p.m. on November12 in Ramseyer Auditorium in College Hall. Dr. Melissa Friesen, professor of theatre and communication, will direct the show.

Set in 1926 in the American heartland, the famed “healing waters” of Paragon Springs have been mysteriously poisoned. Now, the town’s foremost citizen crusader, Dr. Thomas Stockman, is determined to know the truth behind this tragedy, no matter the cost. In this vibrant, often funny and highly theatrical re-imagining of Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the People,” Steven Dietz puts the lure of capitalism and the greed of small-town-self-interest squarely on trial.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for senior citizens, Bluffton University faculty and staff, and non-Bluffton University students. Admission is free for Bluffton University students. Purchase tickets at www.bluffton.edu/theatre/

The Bluffton High School girls soccer team defeated visiting Mansfield Christian 4-1 in Div. III sectional final action on Thursday night, October 19, at Steinmetz Field.

The Pirates scored all four of their goals in a 12-minute span midway through the game, and the defense held MC scoreless most of the match to post the win. 

Bluffton’s overall record improved to 10-6-2 after the victory. 

The win set up a rematch with local league rival Allen East (15-3) in the district semifinals.
