Roberta McKinney 1926-2011
Roberta June Manges McKinney, 84, died Monday, April 4, 2011 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Gahanna, Ohio, where she had lived for the past five years.
She was born June 27, 1926 to Byron and Mary (Lehman) Manges in Hancock County. Growing up on the family farm, she was involved in 4-H and traveled to Chicago, Ill., to represent Ohio in a national 4-H event.
She received her Bachelor's Degree from Bluffton College in music and education. She taught music in grades 1-12 both band and choir and directed musicals.
It was in school where she met her husband, Donovan Ewing McKinney and they were married on June 4, 1950. Donovan proceeded her death on April 3, 2007. The couple lived most of their lives in Columbus.
Mrs. McKinney was proficient in piano, voice, and cello, and played in the Jewish Center orchestra in Bexley.
She is survived by children, Joyce Lyday, Rome, GA, Jean (Chris) Jones, Columbus, Janice (Greg) Adams, Springfield, and Donovan Robert (Joan) McKinney, Columbus.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Jonathan (Linda) Lyday, Beth (Jess) Hinshaw, James Lyday, Bobby Jones, Tommy Jones, Theodore Adams, Jane Adams, Molly McKinney and Ellie McKinney and great-granddaughter, Emily Mae Lyday.
Mrs. McKinney Roberta was predeceased by her eldest sister, Myda Jane Badertscher, Bluffton, and is survived by her younger sister Marilyn (Ron) Heldman, Bluffton, and her younger brother Dean (Sue) Manges, Ottawa, and sister-in-law, Pat McKinney, Cridersville,
Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 9, at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton. Rev. Kevin Mohr will officiate.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada. Online condolences can be found at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
