A Jan Dohnal tally in the second minute of overtime number two sent Goshen to a 2-1 victory over the Bluffton University men's soccer team on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011. Greg Thiessen set up the game-winner with his corner kick, helping the Maple Leafs (1-3) to their first win of the season. Bluffton fell to 0-4 with the loss, their second straight in double overtime.
Goshen was on the scoreboard early with a goal by Jacob Yoder at the 10:47 mark. He was assisted by Alain Chaponniere. The Beavers fought hard, but went to the break down by that 1-0 count.
To start the second half the Beavers came out fighting and finally hit paydirt at 76:20 when Peter Carlson (Toledo/Springfield) put one in the back of the net to tie the match. Both teams fought for control of the game but regulation time ended with a score of 1-1.
The first overtime passed uneventfully as neither team could find the back of the net. Goshen needed just over a minute in the second extra period when Dohnal took advantage of the corner kick from Thiessan.
The visitors finished with na 18-2 advantage in shots and a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks. Bluffton committed eight more infractions (17-9) than the visitors.
Dan Saville (Toledo/Central Catholic) collected five saves against the Goshen offensive onslaught.
The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, when they travel to Ohio Christian University. The contest is slated for 4:30 p.m.
