Poet to give reading at Bluffton

Dr. Philip Metres, a poet and member of the English faculty at John Carroll University, will read from his work at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Musselman Library Reading Room at Bluffton University. The event, beginning with refreshments at 3:45 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Metres' writing has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including Best American Poetry. He is also the author of several books, most recently the 2008 collection, "To See the Earth."

The recipient of fellowships from, among others, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ohio Arts Council, he teaches American literature and creative writing at John Carroll.

A San Diego native who grew up in suburban Chicago, Metres holds a Ph.D. in English and a master of fine arts degree in creative writing, both from Indiana University.
