Workshop to strengthen Excel, accounting skills

Bluffton University will offer a three-week workshop on campus and in Piqua and Archbold during July to help participants strengthen their Excel skills and develop understanding of core financial statements.

Open to the public for individuals' professional development, the workshop will cost $125 and provide an introduction to business use of Excel functions and capabilities within the context of a manager's basic needs. Excel topics will include formulas and functions, charts and data tables; business topics such as income statement, cash flow and "what if" analyses will also be covered.

Classes will meet from 7-9 p.m. on consecutive Tuesdays, July 10, 17 and 24, at Bluffton; Mondays, July 9, 16 and 23, at Edison Community College in Piqua; and Thursdays, July 12, 19 and 26, at Northwest State Community College in Archbold.

Depending upon interest, the Edison and Northwest State classes may be offered via videoconference. Time for individual instruction will be available immediately after class.

Jason Swartzlander, assistant professor of accounting at Bluffton, is the instructor for the course, which will use handouts rather than a textbook.

No academic credit will be granted, but participants who attend all three sessions and successfully complete homework will receive a certificate of completion for one workshop credit.
