Volleyball: Bluffton gets back to .500 with sweep of Manchester

The Bluffton University volleyball team returned to Heartland Conference action against Manchester University and came out on top with a three-set victory (25-14, 25-20, 25-19) on Wednesday night in Founders Hall. With the win, the Beavers evened their record at 9-9 on the season and 1-1 in HCAC play. Manchester slipped to 9-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Leading the Beavers on the attack was freshman middle Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) with eight hammers and right on her heels was senior Heather Schierer (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) who delivered seven bombs. Brown did not commit an error while hitting .500 for the match.
Sophomore Kristyn Hovest (Pandora-Gilboa/Gilboa) and freshman setter Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield/Madison) both knocked down six kills for the Beavers. Lauber hit .667 with no errors on nine attempts to along with her 23 assists.
Junior Lindsay Krohn (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) picked up 10 shovels, while Lauber racked up another double-double with 10 digs as well.
This weekend the Beavers head to Anderson, Indiana, for a Heartland Conference showdown against the Ravens before a non-league matchup with Goshen College. The first contest is slated for 1 p.m.
