Arthur Clase Immele was father of a Bluffton resident
Arthur Clase Immele, 98, of Tiffin, died Friday morning, Feb. 1, 2013, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
He was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Tiffin, to Joseph A. and Mary P. (Ross) Immele. He married Marian B. Kamp Sept. 4, 1937.
Survivors include one son, Robert "Bob" Immele of Glendale, Ariz.; two daughters, Margaret "Peg" (Ed) Murphy of Bluffton, and Martha (Ernie) Boyer of Lima; son-in-law, Kandy Matthew Cameron of Tiffin; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian; a son, Michael Immele; two daughters, Marilyn Hill and Elizabeth Cameron; daughter-in-law, Lillian Immele; brother, James "Ray" Immele; infant brother, Joseph Immele; and a grandson, Joseph Immele.
He graduated from Calvert High School in 1933 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arthur taught CCD for 13 years at St. Joseph and Calvert High School. He was a lector and Eucharistic minister including communion to the homebound and a member of the parish council. He was a 4th Degree K of C member and Grand Knight. He was a charter member of St. Joseph Federal Credit Union and volunteered many years at the St. Joseph Festival.
He worked in the shipyards in Galveston, Texas, during World War II returning to Tiffin in 1944. He started the Local 357 plumber's union and later joined with Local 50 in Toledo. He was a member, treasurer, and blood drive chairman for the American Red Cross and donated 32 gallons of blood. He also was a board member of the Seneca County Commission on Aging.
He was very active in Boy Scouts; especially with Troop 444. He was a scout master for 25 years and designed many of the patches earned by the scouts. He served on many committees for scouts; district, council and diocesan. Arthur built and designed the Seneca Sam cabin at Camp Berry, earning him the nickname "Seneca Sam." He earned the Boy Scout Silver Beaver in the old Put-Han-Sen Council and St. George in the Toledo Diocese; the highest recognition in scouts. He also was on the board and local cookie chair for the Girl Scouts of America.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin with the Rev. Joseph Szybka and the Rev. Thomas Oedy con-celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will begin at 1:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Black Swamp
Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, Findlay, or to the family in care of the funeral home.
