Volleyball falls at Hanover in straight sets

HANOVER, Ind. - The Bluffton University volleyball team fell to Hanover College (25-23, 26-24, 25-17) in the first Heartland Conference matchup of the season on Saturday, Sept. 30. The Beavers are now 9-9 on the season and 0-1 in the HCAC. After two tight sets, Hanover went on a 9-0 run in the third en route to the sweep. The Panthers improved to 13-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Freshman Remi Bower (Patrick Henry) and junior Bethany Martini (Pickerington/North) led the offense with eight kills and nine kills, respectively. Junior Jessie Gibson (Warsaw/River View) added seven kills in the three-set match while freshman Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Central) tallied four kills on nine attempts with one error for a .333 hitting percentage.
Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) chipped in with 30 assists and eight digs. Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) and Martini topped the Bluffton defense with 17 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Beavers travel to Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 4. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in Cincinnati.
