Winter book games ends this month
Here's the March schedule of events at Bluffton Public Library:
Winter Book Games reading program for children, teens, and adults ends in March.
Pick up a Winter Book Games Bingo card or download and print it from our website. Then, read five or more books to receive a Bingo and a completion prize. At this time, you may also enter a drawing to win a larger prize.
Brain Builders S.T.E.A.M. Club continues on March 15 and 29 at 4 p.m. Children ages 6-12 will experiment, construct, and explore themes of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) utilizing Legos, K’Nex, Strawbees, ELENCO Snap Circuits, code.org, and more. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Registration is full but you may put your child on our waiting list.
It's National Craft Month. Visit the library (9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) to get your d.i.y. on during Craft Month Fridays. Crafts for a variety of ages will be set up around the main floor of the library. Take some time for yourself to create something.
Playgroup sessions continue at 10 a.m. on Fridays, March 9, 16, 23 and 30. Make a playdate and the library will provide the space and toys.
On March 5 at 6 p.m., is the Student Art Showcase Launch Party. View artwork from our young community members, and enjoy light refreshments. Students with artwork on display are invited to bring along their family members and friends to show off their creation. Artwork will be on display through March 30 to celebrate Student Art Month.
Dulcimers @ the Library continues on Tuesdays March 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 1 p.m. while Jammin’ at the Library continues at 6 p.m. on March 12 and 26.
Jammin’ is a song-circle style jam session anyone is welcome to join. Then, on March 22 at 6 p.m., join us for a Jammin’ Instructional. Learn about various methods or topics in jammin’-style music. Topics are determined each month by the group.
Chill Zone continues on Tuesdays, March 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 3:30 p.m. Chill Zone is a safe space for tweens and teens to hang out and relax at the library. Anyone in grades 6-12 is welcome to join. Activities include gaming, socializing, themed events, and crafting. Snacks are provided.
On March 6 at 6 p.m., Master Gardener Volunteer Mark Simmons will speak at The Gardeners of the Bluffton/Pandora Area meeting and the program is open to the public.
Learn how to use the online OSU Phenology Calendar to help predict when plant and insect activity will occur in our area. For instance, “When will the Ragweed bloom and make me sneeze?” or “When will the Japanese Beetles hatch and start eating my roses, apple trees, and raspberry leaves?”
Adult Book Discussion group meets on Wednesday, March 7, to discus"s Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy" by Karen Abbott and will meeting with the author via Skype.
This monthly discussion group is open to new members, and registration is requested. Copies of each month’s book are available for checkout the month prior to each discussion, and you may register when you check out.
The book selection for the April 4 discussion is "Vengeance of Mothers," by Jim Fergus, and will include a Skype visit with the author.
Babies Love Books meets on March 8 at 10 a.m. Join us for stories about animal noises and songs for babies and toddlers (birth-3 years). Activities promote language, movement, and motor development. All children must be accompanied by a parent or child care provider who will participate in the program. No prior registration necessary.
On March 14, visit our "New" room to experience a bit of Hygge (hue-guh): a word of Norwegian origin that’s used by the Danish to mean cozy, content, comfortable, companionable. During Hygge Day, check out a hygge book from our display, enjoy a cozy environment, bring your own blanket, and relax with some tea or hot cocoa.
Spring Storytime begins on March 19 and 20 and continues on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. or Tuesdays at 10 a.m. (choose a day when registering). Registration begins March 5.
Parents or caregivers can register children via email, phone, or in person. Storytime is for preschool children ages 3-5 on either Monday nights or Tuesday mornings. Children may join Storytime at the start of the month in which they will have their third birthday.
A Spring Sing is March 20 at 6:30 p.m. This is a time for community members to join together in song, led by folk singer Doug Adams. No instrument required.
Conversation & Film is March 21 at 5 p.m. Movie selection is “Selma” (PG-13). Conversation will be led by The Multicultural Student Organization (MSO) of Bluffton University, and by Monty Slekerman and Alfred Cohoe, former ONU faculty and staff members, who attended Dr. King’s talk at ONU in 1968.
Advance registration is required and parent permission slips for all minors must be completed and signed by a legal guardian. Registrants are welcome to attend the conversation at 5 p.m. even if they are unable to attend the film showing afterwards.
Due to the popularity of our Brain Builders program, we are offering Saturday S.T.EA.M. Fun sessions. Join us on March 24 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for experiments and family fun in the children’s area. No prior registration necessary. Activities will be provided for ages 6-12. Please note all children must be accompanied by an adult who will assist them in the activities.
Watercolor Workshop returns March 26 at 6 p.m. Jeanne Beutler teaches on the lower level. The painting this month is “Lamb." Advance registration is required and space is limited. Registration is now open. Walk away with your own watercolor piece of art, complete with mat.There is a $10 supply fee at the door (cash only please).
Group Tech Classes will be at the library on March 27 at 4 p.m. Matt Motes, Information Technologist for the SEO Library Center, leads this program and cover basic Microsoft Excel, Windows 10 and Cyber Security. Register in advance at our front desk or by calling 419-358-5016.
