Rewarding volunteer opportunity waiting to happen
If you are 21 or older and like to drive, Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio has a rewarding volunteer opportunity for you.
MHCO is seeking to add drivers to its group of medical transport volunteers. The time commitment is flexible, and driving is only for medical transports. Trips are made Monday through Friday and are typically from Bluffton to the Findlay/Lima area.
According to Jessica Strahm, volunteer coordinator, MHCO provides well-maintained small buses and a mini-van for the transport of its elders who use scooters or are in wheelchairs.
Volunteer drivers do not need a CDL to operate the buses and van, and MHCO provides training for operating the vehicles and loading and unloading passengers.
A valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and a fingerprint background check are required. Drivers are notified and scheduled on an as-needed basis.
“This is a really needed service for our elders,” said Strahm. “It’s a great opportunity for retired individuals and those who may have a few days a month to volunteer.” For more information, contact Strahm at 419-358-1015, ext. 248 or email [email protected]
