Women's Basketball, Jan. 14

The Bluffton University women's basketball team led from start to finish in a convincing 72-56 demolition of visiting Franklin College on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023. The Beavers improved to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the Heartland Conference following an exciting Alumni Day game that ended in a 52-52 tie.

Bluffton hit 26-of-56 (46.4 percent) and the defense limited Franklin to 31.8 percent shooting (20-of-64). The home team pulled down five more rebounds, but Franklin had an 18-14 edge on the offensive glass. The Beavers outscored Franklin 36-28 in the paint.

Men's Basketball, Jan. 14

The Bluffton University men's basketball team dropped a 59-45 decision to Franklin College on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023. Franklin moved to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the Heartland Conference, while Bluffton fell to 4-11 and 2-6 in the HCAC.

Bluffton managed just 15-of-53 shooting from the field for 28.3 percent and the Beavers held Franklin to 20-of-53 (37.7 percent) as scoring was at a premium for both teams. Franklin struggled to an 11-of-20 night at the line, while Bluffton drilled 10-of-11 (90.9 percent) freebies. The Grizzlies pulled down six more rebounds (40-34) and the Beavers turned it over five more times (16-11).

The Beavers will be back in the Sommer Center on Wednesday, Jan. 18, when Manchester University comes to town for a 7:30 p.m. Heartland Conference clash.

Swimming and Diving, Jan. 13

ANDERSON, Ind. - The Bluffton University swimming and diving teams were back in the pool at Anderson on Friday, Jan. 13 after a two-month hiatus for the holidays.

Keevan Lee (Mount Cory/Cory-Rawson) and Riley Bruns (Maria Stein/Marion Local) took over the top two spots in the Bluffton record books for the 50-yard breaststroke with times of 35.45 and 39:04, respectively. Bruns also got it done with a school record in the 50-yard butterfly with a 28.62.

Sydney Grisier (Bryan) was impressive with a school-record time of 41.37 in the 50-yard backstroke. She also scored 109.90 in the 1-meter dive, good for 4th all-time at Bluffton. Her 32.50 in the 50-yard freestyle is 5th all-time.

Bluffton heads to Ohio Wesleyan next Friday, Jan. 20, for a meeting with the Battling Bishops as well as the ONU Polar Bears.
