Pirate baseball stings Hornets, 10-0

The Bluffton High School baseball team shut out visiting non-league rival Cory-Rawson 10-0 Tuesday evening, April 25.

The Pirates improved to 7-7 overall with the six-inning victory. The Hornets fell to 1-8 with the defeat.

Bluffton jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning and was never threatened. The Pirates plated two runs in both of the third and fourth frames to build a 9-0 cushion.

Bluffton then invoked the 10-run rule with a run in the home sixth inning. The Pirates out-hit the Hornets, 8-4.

Pirate pitcher Jaden Coonfare hurled six innings of shutout baseball to get the win. He allowed just four hits and three walks, while striking out four. Fifty of his 75 pitches went for strikes or were put in play.

Shortstop Quinn Eachus hit a double, singled and scored two runs while driving in one run. He also stole three of the 12 bases Bluffton swiped.

First baseman Jacob Granger stroked two singles, scored a pair of runs and knocked in one run.

Catcher Kerry Wright collected two RBI on two hits, and scored one run. 

Left fielder Landen Worcester drove home a run and stole two bases.

Right fielder Garett Bogart singled and amassed a team-high three RBI. Worcester also stole a base.

Center fielder Braeden Jordan swiped four bases, scored two runs and singled. He was hit by a pitch twice.

Third baseman Luke Jebsen scored two runs and drove in one run.

The Pirates out-hit Cory 8-4, and played error-less defense. The Hornets left six runners on base, while Bluffton stranded two.

Bluffton (3-2 NWC) entertains NWC rival Spencerville (1-14, 1-4 NWC) Thursday.
