By Cort Reynolds
MIDDLE POINT—Lincolnview defeated the visiting Bluffton High School softball team 11-1 in Northwest Conference action on Monday evening, April 24.
Bluffton fell to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in NWC play with the loss. The Lancer girls improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the NWC to stay third behind unbeaten Crestview (6-0 NWC) and Ada (5-0) in the conference standings.
The Pirates led 1-0 after two innings. Bluffton’s Lauren Bassett knocked out a hit and scored as Hannah Davis singled her in for the only Pirate run.
But the Lancers took the lead with three runs in the third, and added two more in the fourth frame. Makayla Jackman drove in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
The hosts then invoked the 10-run rule with six tallies in the sixth.
Lancer winning pitcher Taylor Post batted 2-3 with a triple, one RBI and two runs scored. Jackman, Lainey Spear and Grace Brickner each drove in two runs.
Post scattered six hits over six innings while striking out nine.
Hannah Davis suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Six errors by the Bluffton defense resulted in seven unearned runs.
The Lancers out-hit the Pirates, 8-6.
Ashley Fleece, Olivia Hobensack, Dyllan Worcester and Karleigh Davis added a hit apiece for the Pirates.
Bluffton hosts Cory-Rawson Tuesday, and then entertains Spencerville (3-11, 1-4 NWC) Thursday.
