Barry Schneck and Dan Wolfe transport donated food to the Bluffton Food Pantry

Richland Manor donated 4,400 pounds of food to the Bluffton Community Assistance Program's food pantry this week.

Barry Schneck Community Service representative of Richland Manor, said that the food was collected during a June old car cruise-in. In addition to the food that was donated, Richland Manor also provided a $500 check to the food pantry.

Paula McKibben, food pantry coordinator, said that 30 families in the community use the pantry and that about 900 items are needed each month to seek the pantry stocked.

BFR will offer one last session of Gym and Swim beginning Monday, July 25 at 4:30 p.m., according to Carole Enneking, director.

Gym and Swim is led by certified water instructor, Kelly Honse. The activities begin at BFR with skill stations for movement, followed by a swim lesson at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool.

Children must be 2-6 years of age to participate and a parent must be in the water with their child during the swim portion.

Ed Rice, one-time Bluffton business owner, posed for this photo taken by Paul Diller sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Rice's Tot Shop, was owned by Ed and his wife, Ethlyne.

The Rice family later sold the shop to a the Reichenbachs-Steiners-Lehmans, and the shop became Reistman's. Later the shop was sold to Paul and Jan Snyder, who operated it as Jan's. Today the Bluffton News is located in the former Rice Tot Shop.

Bluffton Child Development Center is now accepting applications for fall enrollment for children ages 6 weeks through age 12, according to Mary Painter, director.

Age appropriate programs are provided at the Center, which offers a nurturing environment with a professional staff and a curriculum that enables every child to grow and learn in his own unique way, according to Painter.
