Weekend doctor: Limitations of online hearing test

While completing a hearing test in the convenience of your own home may be an attractive alternative to making an appointment with an audiologist, online hearing tests are unlikely to accurately or reliably identify the extent of your hearing problems. But what exactly are the benefits to visiting an audiologist versus attempting a hearing test at home?

Dr. Vincent McGinniss developed an interest as an ear-nose-throat physician when his twin sister, a musician, required ear surgery.

Today Dr. McGinniss, D.O., handles surgeries once a week at Bluffton Hospital. Depending upon the patient, the surgery may involve tympanostomy tubes, tonsillectomies or facial plastic surgeries.

He is board certified in both ENT and facial plastic surgery.

BVHS add technology

To Help Diagnose Parkinsonian Syndromes and More  

Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) has added advanced technology that will differentiate between essential tremor and parkinsonian syndromes (among other conditions). DaTscan is a radioactive injection into the patient’s bloodstream to help take pictures of areas of the brain with a special camera called a single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) camera.
