And: How did Cigarette Creek get its name? Are you kidding, is there such a place in Bluffton? Where it is?
Now that I have your attention, please be aware that the above questions will be addressed in a Bluffton Public Library Zoom talk at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 9. Presented by Fred Steiner, you will learn some things you never knew about water-related subjects in Bluffton.
The library is closed on July 3 and 4 in observance of Independence Day.
Bluffton Public Library’s Summer Program, “Imagine Your Story,” continues through July and ends Aug. 15.
During this time, the digital Summer Reading Challenge continues on the library’s Beanstack webpage (with paper forms available for those unable to access the digital version), and the library continues to offer events and services online to provide support, education, and entertainment. Thanks for volunteer efforts of the local manufacturer, Bluffton Public Library will have a customized plexiglass and aluminum unit providing over 20 feet of protection around the library’s main floor front desk area when it eventually reopens to the public.
Here’s how it all came together:
The library contacted Brian Schroeder of GROB when it was determined that the structure of the front desk would require a frame to anchor plexiglass partitions.
Bluffton Public Library’s 2020 Summer Program features opportunities for patrons to watch live videos of local animals.
Live stream with llamas and staff of Hard Rock Llama Company of Ada on July 7; live stream with a variety of farm animals from The Quarry Farm of Pandora, Ohio every Friday; and watch a video from Pet Partners, the therapy dogs and handlers who bring us Paws 2 Read throughout the year, starting on July 13.

The program is part of the summer “Quarry Farm Fridays,” sponsored by the library and The Quarry Farm, rural Pandora.
Those who attend live may ask questions via the Facebook chat. Those unable to attend may view the video later in the day when it is posted on both organizations' Facebook pages and websites.
