Bluffton University’s 23rd annual Alumni and Friends Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, July 25, at Bluffton Golf Club.
Registration for the event is $90 per golfer or $360 for a complete team of four at www.bluffton.edu/golf by July 18. This year’s event will include on-course games and challenges to enhance team position and a silent auction.
In the late 1920s, long-time coach and athletic director A.C. Burcky suggested the beaver as Bluffton’s mascot.
His rationale, according to “Dancing with the Kobzar: Bluffton College and Mennonite Higher Education,” was beavers are resourceful, don’t tire easily, accomplish more with less and work hard to make the world a better place.
One hundred years later, that’s exactly what today’s Bluffton Beavers did despite their seasons ending early, classes moving online and the difficulties of being separated from their friends and teammates due to the coronavirus.
Since March, teams of Bluffton University faculty and staff have been actively planning to welcome students back to campus for the fall 2020 semester while keeping the campus community as healthy as possible.
The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) has announced the spring honorees for Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC. Bluffton student-athletes are listed at the bottom of this story.
Academic All-Conference selections have at least a cumulative 3.5 GPA and are varsity athletes.
Bluffton University has named Robert Richardson as its head men’s soccer coach.
Richardson had been the men’s soccer coach at Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va., for the last seven years.
“I want to thank President Jane Wood and Athletic Director Phill Talavinia for giving me the opportunity to become the next men’s soccer coach at Bluffton University,” said Richardson.
“I look forward to growing the program with a strong and stable team in the present while preparing for success in the future.”
