FROM ADA ICON - After a one-year absence, the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce's Harvest and Herb Festival is back, according to Deb Curlis, chamber director.

LaFayette Jackson Historical Society will host its annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 31.

The parade will start at 9 a.m. with a ceremony following at the monument. Anyone wanting to enter in the parade lineup, contact Judi Badertscher at [email protected] or 419-643-4664.

Two more events, cancelled last year, will take place in Bluffton this summer. Both events are sponsored by the Bluffton Lions Club.

The Lima Rotary Club will hold a reverse raffle at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 3, in the Youth Building at the Allen County Fairgrounds in honor of Jay Begg, the late Allen County Commissioner, and member of the Lima Rotary Club who chaired the club’s annual auction and was involved in many other events.

More than 300 people are expected to attend the Jay Begg Rotary Reverse Raffle, which is a major fundraiser for the Lima Rotary Foundation, as it  distributes thousands of dollars to local charities every year.

Connie Niese will have  a craft/flower plate open house this weekend.

"There  are lots of beautiful plates for sale," she said. "Add a little bling to your garden, or they make wonderful Mother's Day gifts."

The open house is Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

The sale is at 5450 Hillville Road, Columbus Grove. The sale will be located in the garage.  

Fred Steiner, featured speaker at the 113th annual membership meeting of the Allen County Historical Society

Fred Steiner, owner of Bluffton Icon, is the featured speaker at the 113th annual membership meeting of the Allen County Historical Society held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 25, in Lima.

Steiner’s presentation is on the Western Ohio Railway, an electric interurban that passed through Main Street in Bluffton from 1906 to 1932.

His presentation title is “115 years ahead of its time, or what are those rails doing under Main Street?”

The talk will include dozens of photos of the interurban in Bluffton and stories about how it impacted the village.
