Two free meals, open to the public, are set at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center in August. 

The meals are at 6 p.m.,Thursday, Aug. 1, hosted by S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club, and at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, hosted by Emmanuel United Church of Christ

The center is located at 132 N. Main St., Bluffton.

You remember last year's first-ever Summerfest 1-K, right?

It returns at noon, Saturday, Aug. 10, bigger and better than ever, according to Derek Dukes and Brandon Falk, the creators of the event.

Transition Bluffton event at Buckeye park

Transition Bluffton invites the community to the Buckeye park at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, for an evening of fun and discussion. 

Bring any abundance of vegetables you would like to trade or share.  Join in a discussion about Robin Kimmerer's Potawatomi ideal of Honorable Harvest set forth in her book, Braiding Sweetgrass. "Let's explore what following such an ideal would mean for you, your neighbors and the community at large,”said Peter Badertscher of Transition Bluffton.

Trophies for winners and burn-out competition for the bold

FROM ADA ICON - They are taking it to the streets on Saturday in Ada.

Last summer's Ada VFW cruz-in-Ada attracted owners of over 60 vehicles. This year's show should be just as large if not better, according to Win Hauenstein.

Here's what you need to know:
The show is from 1 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 20, on Main Street, Ada. The street will be closed to through traffic during the event.

Registration is $12 and takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. A cruise is from 5 to 7 p.m. Awards are presented at 7:30 p.m.

1840s Swiss homestead open to visitors on Saturdays this summer

Thomas Wolfe said, “You can’t go home again.” But in rural Bluffton, you can return to the 1840s.

On Saturdays, between now and the end of August, the Swiss Historical Society opens to the public its restored Schumacher homestead at 8350 Bixel Road.

The homestead is open from 1 to 5 p.m. and a docent will show you some of the features of the home and grounds.

Visitors will see a kitchen, living area, bedrooms, basement, summer kitchen and outdoors.

Ebenezer Drama Ensemble production Aug. 9-10-11; tickets on sale Sunday

Kevin Gratz said he never gets the chance to produce a Christmas show at Christmas. So, he’s doing one in August.

 “Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas” billed as a funny, poignant collection of stories, songs, and vignettes by Robert Fulghum, is the biennial Dinner Theatre presented by the Ebenezer Drama Ensemble in the Crossroads Ministry Center, 8905 Columbus Grove Road, Bluffton.

Performances are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9, 10, 11.

Tickets are $10 and include dinner at 6 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m. each evening.
