Community garage sale deadline extended to May 6

The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library have extended the registration deadline for the third annual Community Garage Sale, which will be held on May 19, 20, and 21.

Maps highlighting individual sale locations, a list of addresses with sale descriptions, media coverage, and classified advertising will be coordinated by the Friends.

To appear on the map and list, participants must register by Friday, May 6, 2011. The Friends need a minimum of 20 participants for this event.

ONU Astronomy Club to host 'Galaxies of Spring' May 6

The Ohio Northern University Astronomy Club invites area residents to "The Galaxies of Spring," an astronomy event in the ONU Observatory on Friday, May 6, from 9 to 11 p.m.

During the viewing, telescopes will first follow the crescent moon as it descends in the west and then Saturn as it rises in the east. After twilight, participants will hunt down some galaxies near the North Galactic Pole, which will be well placed near the meridian.

May public library calendar available for Icon viewers

Icon viewers may now access the May calendar from the Bluffton Public Library. Several events are planned during May.

Tree Commission honors Bluffton mayor on Saturday with tree planting

Retiring Bluffton Mayor Fred Rodabaugh is being honored this Arbor Day by the Bluffton Tree Commission.

The Bluffton Tree Commission will hold an Arbor Day tree planting at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 30, in the rear of the town hall property.

The commission will plant a flowering cherry tree, selected for the occasion by the mayor. The program is open to the public.

Recognizing an individual with a special tree is one of the ways the Bluffton Tree Commission has commemorated Arbor Day in recent years.

Zombie month celebrated at public library

Teens hungry for fun - or just brains - are invited to participate in two zombie programs at Bluffton Public Library this May. First on Thursday, May 12 at 4 p.m., teens are encouraged to come dressed as the undead to discuss the book Zombies vs. Unicorns and play a bone-crunching round of Zombie Feud.

Bette's Polka Band at the Senior Center April 28

Bette's Polka Band will perform at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center Thursday, April 28.

The dance is open to the public and will include snacks and a drawing. Bette is known for her polkas and square dances as well as fox trots and waltzes.

"The dance is from 6 to 9 p.m. with the doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Members of the Senior Center love to show newcomers how to dance and everyone is welcome. Tickets are $4 per person and are available at the door," said Tonya Meyer, director of the Center.
