Local blood drives in March, April and May

St. Mary's Catholic Church hosts March 23 event from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

As the seasons change, the American Red Cross is reminding the public that the need for blood doesn’t take a break.

Donors of all blood types, especially type O donors and platelet donors, are encouraged to make and keep appointments to donate. Book a time to give by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

When donors lend an arm this month, the Red Cross will lend a hand. All who come to give blood, platelets or plasma March 1-31, 2023,​​​​ will receive a $10 Visa® Prepaid Card by email. Plus, they'll be automatically entered for a chance to win a $3,000 Visa Prepaid Card – which could help toward expenses like gas or groceries. There will be five lucky winners. Details are available at rcblood.org/help.

Mennonite Memorial Home of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on April 1 at 10:00-10:30 a.m. sharp! (FLYER)

  • Bring your Easter Basket

The event will be held in the backyard of the Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm. The main building and restrooms will be closed.

2023 Jefferson Awards will recognize unsung heroes

The 2023 Jefferson Awards Banquet will be held on Tuesday, March 28 at the City Club, 144 S. Main St., Lima, Ohio beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The national program recognizes the “unsung heroes” by awarding individuals who give their time and effort, on a volunteer basis, to improve their communities. The national program, founded in 1972, was brought to Lima in 2001.

Registration is open for July 15 Ride to Remember

CORRECTION: Organizers are planning for 275 riders with cinch sacks available for that number of registered riders.

The ninth Annual Ride to Remember, a Bluffton Lions fundraising event for cyclists of all ages and abilities, is now taking registrations for the Saturday, July 15 event. When you ride, you help Bluffton build more bike and pedestrian pathways. (Register HERE.)

The in-person ride will take cyclists through the Village of Bluffton, Ohio and the surrounding countryside. Routes include four marked loops. Distances range from 11-124 miles.

The first 275 registered riders to check in will receive a cinch sack filled with items from local businesses and a lunch coupon. In 2022, the cinch sack value was close to $200. A commemorative T-shirt will be offered for purchase during registration.
