This week The Icon talks with four more Bluffton third graders. They are Landyn Fleharty (Mrs. Raeburn’s class), Ethan Bogart (Mr. Armstrong’s class), Maeve Donaldson (Mrs. Bogart’s class), and Caleb Mckenzie (Mrs. Kingsley’s class).

Jamil, what year did you graduate from Bluffton High School?  Can you share some memories you have of school or growing up in Bluffton?

I graduated in 1995 from BHS.  What I remember most is the fantastic teachers we had. It seemed all of them truly had a passion for teaching and wanted to make a difference.  Mr. Brown was especially entertaining and engaging with his experiments.

Kathryn Van Dyke of Bluffton just made history – she is the first Maple Crest resident to celebrate her 100th birthday while living at Maple Crest.

On Feb. 3, 2013, Kathryn turned 100 and celebrated with her family. The photo of Kathryn was taken during the Maple Crest monthly birthday party held on Feb. 8.

Kathryn was the seventh of 11 children. She seems to have been born with the family gene for long life.  Her mother lived into her 90s, and her two living sisters are 93 and 106 (Elva Huffman).

This is the time of year when Ohio residents long for an escape from the cold and snow, to someplace where it's summer.  Recently, Bluffton residents Christina and Nathan Seidner did just that with a eight-day mission trip to Uruguay.

Christina, employed at Common Grounds Coffee House, and Nathan, a mechanical engineer at Grob, both belong to the First Assembly of God in Lima. They took part in a mission that included 17 others, including members at churches from Findlay, Wapakoneta and Leipsic.

Over 20 Rhythm In Motion Dance Centre' dancers participated in the ONU 2013 Dance Clinic with the ONU Northern Stars dance team on Feb. 9.

Over 100 dancers participated to a medley of One Direction during the event.

RIMDC dancers range in ages 5-18 and are from Ada, Bluffton, Allen East, Cory-Rawson and Kenton.

The girls took class from ONU students and dancers from 11:30-2:20 p.m., putting the final product together at the 3 p.m. ONU men's basketball game against Mount Union.

On Feb. 4 Christine Purves moved into her new home at 103 Willow Ridge Drive, more affectionately known as Frieda House. Christine is one of 12 elders who are the first to call Willow Ridge “home.”  Willow Ridge is the newest community of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO) and provides licensed nursing care for 20 elders in two Green House homes.

Rhonda Wolpert, Green House Guide and Administrator for Mennonite Memorial Home, can hardly contain her excitement about this new opportunity.
