Mennonite Memorial Home recently hosted its annual sweetheart dinner. Fifteen couples from the Mennonite Memorial Home community's nursing, assisted living and independent living areas attended.
Pictures were taken of each couple seated in front of a floral heart backdrop provided by Town and Country Flowers of Bluffton.
The couples enjoyed a special meal with dinner music provided by pianist, Sara Nowlan, an MHCO staff member.
Richland Manor, Swaney Road Bluffton, hosted a chili cook off on Feb. 21. Over 70 people attended the event, which featured 14 varieties of chili.
The winners follow:
• First place and winner of $100: Russ Goedde for his Sante Fe Chili
• Second place and winner of $75: Roberta Beemer for her Sausage Chili
• Third place and winner of $50: Edwin and Gwynne Sortenson for their White Chicken Chili
Kasey Kruse,16, of Columbus Grove, doesn't just get a haircut. You might say she recycles her hair. She recently donated 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love. This was the fifth donation to the organization that she made.
She has been able to give this gift approximately every 1 1/2 to 2 years. Kasey is the daughter of Ken and Connie Kruse, owners of Town and Country Flowers, Bluffton, and attends Columbus Grove High School. She is pictured with her Aunt Linda Kruse of Linda's Styling and Tanning Salon, Columbus Grove.
Bluffton Boy Scout Troop 256 participated in the 2013 Klondike Derby, held on Jan. 19.
The Klondike derby is a competition between Boy Scout troops from around the area. Each Boy Scout patrol pulls or pushes a dog sled. Each sled contains competition gear for use at the different stations.
The stations test the scout’s knowledge and the ability to work as a team. This year’s stations consisted of:
• 2-man saw,
• map and compass reading,
• knot tying,
•fire building, and
• water rescuing.
