Beaverdam graduates received diplomas 75 and 70 years ago

The Beaverdam Alumni Association hosted a banquet on Saturday, May 14 at the Centre at Bluffton. Dwain Holt was the MC for the evening.

Among the guests were siblings George Greenway (75 years graduation anniversary) and Donna Greenaway (70 years graduation anniversary).

George taught Industrial Arts at Bluffton High School and Elida High School, and is a graduate of Ohio Northern University. Donna went to college at North Western Business School. She worked for American Standard, Eastwood Schools and Bowling Green State University.

Youth orchestra finale and audition information

The Lima Area Youth Orchestra held its 2021-2022 season finale on Sunday, May 15. The program was led by LAYO Music Director Sarah Waters and Co-Conductor Joseph MacBenn.

Photo-story: First grade hosts Author Party

On Thursday, May 12, Bluffton Elementary School first graders invited their families to an Author Party in the middle school cafetorium. The room was abuzz with activity, with the students presenting their writing and illustrations in small group circles.

Each student took a turn in the author's chair while other students and family members looked on. They shared an autobiography or an animal book that they had created. The event was organized like a conference with presentation groups numbered and authors listed on signs.

Photo-story: Cory-Rawson Community Day

Cory-Rawson Schools superintendent Jay Clark invited the Icon to witness Community Day on Tuesday, May 10. Originally scheduled for a week earlier, cold, wet, crummy weather was replaced with a picture perfect day for working hard and playing hard.

Clark explained, “The goal of the day is to connect with our community. Everyone participates in some way.” As the attached pictures reveal, students spread mulch, cleaned barrels, scraped and painted, and more. In fact, all grades preschool-12th spent the morning doing service projects. A total of 540 students participated in the event.

Jack Hohenbrink named BHS Student of the Month in April

The April student of the month at Bluffton High School is Jack Hohenbrink, a junior with a 3.920 GPA. He is the son of Craig and Mandy Hohenbrink of Bluffton. 

Hohenbrink is a member of the student senate, manages the concession stand during winter sports and is a student helper in the Elementary/Middle School cafeteria, which he has done for the past three years.

He was named student of the year in Science his sophomore year and has been an Academic Letter recipient in 2021 and 2022.

Pandora resident Steve Davis honored for soil and water conservation work

In February 2022, The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) showed its appreciation for exceptional leadership and commitment to conservation by honoring Steve Davis of the Natural Resource Conservation Service.
