Barry Schneck: Helping people and making a difference in their lives

Barry Schneck

Barry Schneck and I sat down for our pre-arranged interview. Then his phone rang. It was a hospital checking on some information. We started over. Then his phone rang. It was a call from the adult son of a potential resident. We started again. Then, he excused himself to make a couple follow-up calls concerning the potential resident.

Barry was in his typical, "I'm really sorry about this," mode. He was also in his element: being able to help someone with an immediate need.

Pass the maple syrup, please

Want to make your own maple syrup? It's simple. Just wait until February when it's below freezing at night and above freezing during the day. That weather combination causes sap to run in maple trees.

It's lots more complicated than that, of course, but it's certainly satisfying for a guy with a lot of patience and lots of maple trees. Oh, and it takes lots of maple sap: 50 gallons of sap boils down to one gallon of maple syrup.

Here's the update on the Green House Project

The March issue of "The Visioneer," which provides updates on the Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio Green House Project is now available for Icon viewers.

House "B" is completely under roof and the rough-in mechanicals (electrical, plumbing, heating/AC, fire suppression) are proceeding rapidly.

House "A" is nearly under roof and then the mechanical rough-ins will begin there as well. There was a point in early December when we thought the project would need to be put on hold until spring.

Reagan Mittendorf, Zoie Joseph, Emily Jones and Brittany Crouch will blow out their birthday candles on their birthday - for the first time in four years.

The four have one thing in common - each was born on a leap year. And as you know, Feb. 29 comes around only once every 1, 460 days.
