Szabos in Friday ONU recital

A recital Friday, Sept. 9, will feature Joseph Robinson, former principal oboe of the New York Philharmonic. Assisting him will be mezzo soprano Julia Szabo, Pamela Ashmore, piano and Jeremy Szabo, English horn.

The recital will take place in Presser Hall on the campus of Ohio Northern University, Ada. Start time is 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Danielle Laing named Bluffton PO officer in charge

Danielle Laing

Danielle Laing has returned home. The 1987 (Danielle Kihm) Bluffton High School graduate was named Bluffton Post Office officer in charge on Aug. 31.

She and her husband, Steve, also a Bluffton High School graduate, are parents to two children and live in the Columbus Grove school district. Laing has nearly 15 years experience in the post office. In addition to her Bluffton assignment, she is also postmaster at Alger.

Lyle Arnold wins first Icon college football contest

Lyle Arnold won the first Icon college football contest. He picked eight correct games and was closest to the acutal score of the Blufton-Kalamazoo game of all contestants in the tie-breaker.

Other results:

Duane Bollenbacher wins high school football contest week 2

Duane Bollenbacher won the Icon's high school football contest for week 2. He picked 9 winners and won the tie-breaker. In a tie-breaker he picked Bluffton by 1 to 7 over Carey.

Next Maple Crest book discussion Sept. 26

A discussion of Abraham Verghese's book "Cutting for Stone" will take place in the family room of Maple Crest Senior Living Village on Monday, Sept. 26, at 2:30 p.m.

Copies of the book are available at Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main St., Bluffton. Maple Crest Senior Living Village is located at 700 Maple Crest Ct., Bluffton.
