Seth Swary, son of Kein and Wendy Swary of Pandora, is the recipient of the Alvin F. and Mary C. Basinger Scholarship for 2010. The annual $500 scholarship goes to a Pandora-Gilboa High School senior.

The recipient is selected on the basis of scholarship merit, leadership, school and community service and the promise of success in a chosen field.

What year did you graduate from BHS? Did you attend Bluffton schools from kindergarten on?

I graduated BHS in 2007 and I attended Bluffton schools since kindergarten.

Four Maple Crest published authors were honored in late July in the Family Room at Maple Crest, with a reception and book-signing event.

They are Ruth Ayers, Carol Diller, Carl Wolf and Claralice Wolf. In 2001, Ruth Ayers and Carol Diller, along with Elnor Rodehefer, Amelia Basinger, and Dorothy Williams, authored the cookbook " Memories of Mother's Cooking (Cooking in the Swiss Community 1915-1935)."

Senior Citizens breakfasts for the 2010-11 school year are set, according to Greg Denecker, Bluffton schools superintendent. Each month's breakfast is free for area seniors.

Each breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m. and is held in the middle school cafetorium. During each breakfast a Bluffton school group performs for seasons. The monthly breakfasts are also listed in The Ion calendar.

The monthly schedule follows:

Sept. 8 - Marching band

Oct. 13 - Show choir

Nov. 10 - Drama club

Dec. 8 - Concert choir

Amelia Welch, Mt. Cory, and a 2009 graduate of Cory-Rawson High School has been awarded the Frank Potts Memorial Scholarship of $500.

She will be attending the University of Cincinnati this fall in nursing.The Frank Potts Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999 in the memory of the late Frank W. Potts, for his dedication and commitment in the fire service.
