Pandora resident receives Navy promotion

Operations Specialist Seaman Aaron D. Cox of the U.S. Navy, was appointed Third Class Petty Officer by his commanding officer on board USS Harpers Ferry on June 4.

Cox has served abroad in Japan for over 18 months and has been in the navy for 2 1/2 years. He is a 2004 graduate of Pandora-Gilboa High School. His father is Dean Cox of Lima and his mother is Gloria Cox of Pandora.

What are you doing now:

I'm a team trainer at Arby's in Bluffton. I teach the new crew how to serve customers and run the equipment. When I'm not teaching, I'm usually found in the drive-thru window.

I understand you have a rather large movie collection. How many movies do you have?

I have about 200 DVD's. The oldest movie I have a copy of is "The Scarlet Pimpernel" with Leslie Howard from 1934.

Local author Judy Clemens releases second in Grim Reaper series

Local author Judy Clemens has a launch party planned for her newly-released book "The Grim Reaper's Dance." The event is from4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, July 17, at the Stately Raven Bookstore, 1315 N. Main St., Findlay.

This is the second book in the Grim Reaper mystery series. A brief synopsis of the book follows:

Maple Crest men celebrate on June 22

Men of Maple Crest held their men's banquet on June 22. The entertainment for the evening was a group of musicians called "Harps & Strings." They are five men who play gospel music on banjos and harmonicas, led by Doug Davis of Elida.

After a meal of boneless ribs, the men in attendance were treated to an inspirational message by Denny Edinger, titled "Four Things I Learned from a Dead Man." Edinger graduated from Ft. Wayne Bible College/Taylor University in 1980, then served as a youth minister for three years, and has worked at the Bluffton Post Office for 25 years.

BVH now offers specialized orthopedic trauma services from Dr. Steven Haman

Blanchard Valley Hospital now offers specialized care for orthopedic trauma conditions such as severe fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries from board certified orthopedic traumatologist Dr. Steven Haman.

Dr. Haman is a graduate of Bluffton University and the University of Toledo College of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency at University Medical Center at the University of Toledo.

He also completed an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute in conjunction with Tampa General Hospital.

Mothers Nite Out celebrates

Bluffton's Mother's Nite Out Club held a very special night out earlier this spring. The club celebrated its 50th anniversary.
