Health order reducing state curfew by 1 hour

Change being made because Ohio hospitalizations for COVID-19 have remained below 3,500 for 7 consecutive days

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that Ohio Department of Health Director Stephanie McCloud signed a health order pushing back the statewide curfew one hour, changing the start time of the curfew to 11 p.m. 

The new hours begin Jan 28,  at 12:01 p.m. and lasts through Feb. 11, at 12:01 p.m.  The change is being made because Ohio hospitalizations for COVID-19 have remained below 3,500 for seven consecutive days.

No middle school trip to D.C. this spring

Bluffton middle school eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C., will not take place this year, according to Josh Kaufman, middle school principal The following message concerning the trip is on the school website.

Recently, we have been in contact with the travel company, Prodigy Student Travel, who we were scheduled to take our combined 8th/9th grade field trip to Washington, D.C., in May.

With all the current unknowns of the current pandemic, we unfortunately have decided to cancel the trip this year for both current 8th graders and current freshmen students.

Made in Ada

216 games balls made in Ada are now in the hands the two remaining NFL playoff teams

FROM ADA ICON - Fourteen lucky Ada Wilson's Sporting Goods employees had their own Super Bowl party on Sunday night that lasted into the wee hours of Monday.

According to Andy Wentling, plant manager, the “super” crew worked into the early morning hours at the Ada facility to create the official 2021 Super Bowl footballs. 

“We had dies for the four teams in Sunday’s playoff games ready to use,” he said. “By 10:30 p.m., as soon as the games were over and the winners were determined our crew went to work.”

Accident, vehicle and open burning fires increased from '20 over '19

Despite that 2020 runs were slightly lower than 2019

Bluffton Fire Department’s total 2020 runs edged slightly lower than 2019, however accident, vehicle and open burning fire increased according to Jon Kinn, fire chief.

The department reported 112 runs in 2020 and 119 in 2019.

Kinn’s report shows the greatest increase in fire response was to accidents. In 2020 the department answered 37 accident calls compared to 26 the previous year. June and November were the busiest month for the department.

Covid-19 vaccines available today at CVS for 75 and older

Here's the details provided by the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center

Tonya Meyer, Bluffton Senior Citizens Center director, notified the Icon about covid-19 vaccines.

Here is her message:
CVS just informed us that they now have the COVID-19 vaccine. 

Pharmacies are now getting the vaccine. The CVS in Bluffton now has the Pfizer vaccine.

Today only, if you are over 75, you can walk in and get vaccinated. After today, you need an appointment which you can make at CVS.com or call 1-800-shop-CVS (746-7287).

Online is better because you can fill out all the paperwork and spend less time in the pharmacy.
