Batter up! Bluffton to host an 1860's-style baseball game

Note: Dan Groman provided us with the following information. We thought it best to print it the way he explained it.

As a part of the week-long celebration (in the summer of 2011), Bluffton will host a baseball game using the rules from 1860. No gloves allowed, no running past first base (or you could be tagged out), and you can catch the ball on one bounce in the outfield for an out.

Hancock County, J stands for James, and BEN is short for Benroth. We spotted his plate on Main Street while he was in the library.

Container growing topic of May 11 garden club meeting

The Gardener~Ac^a'not^a"cs of the Bluffton Pandora Area will hold a program on Container Growing. The speaker will be from Indian Trails. He will include growing both flowers and vegetables in a variety of pot sizes and containers.

The meeting is from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, in the Bluffton Public Library large conference room in the lower level. The meeting is open to the public. All visitors are welcome.

Delphos firm gets Harmon Stadium job

Bluffton school board awarded a contract to a Delphos company for the renovation of Harmon Field stadium. The action took place in a special meeting on May 6.

The board accepted a $121,955 bid to renovate the concrete stadium. The bid is from E. Lee Construction, 6223 Kiggins Road, Delphos.

The board also accept two resignations. They are from Joanne Antibus, teacher, effective June 4 and from Dan Rumer, school board member, effective May 1.

There are Steeler fans in Bluffton

You can only do this in states that provide you with one license plate - not two. And, you can bet that this plate was on a Pennsylvania car in Ramseyer residence hall parking lot.

Although Greg Sneary won the Republican Allen County commissioner race 6,114 to 5,977, Jay Begg won in Bluffton, Richland Township and Beaverdam. The GOP race by precincts follows:
