Three youth soccer camps at Bluffton University this summer

Bluffton University is hosting several youth soccer camps this summer.

The first start Monday, June 4, at the university, according to Rick Nussbaum, soccer coach.

For grades 6 to 8, the camp will begin June 4 through June 8 at 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The registration price is $100 and the registration deadline is May 31.

Pirate tracksters roar into regional; girls win district, boys finish fifth

Bluffton High School girls' track team added another significant piece of hardware to the BHS trophy case as they won the Liberty Benton District III track meet Saturday.

The girls team scored 92 points to edge second place Waynesfield with 88. Third was Carey with 71.4 and fourth, Columbus Grove with 58.

Competitive balance issue fails again in OHSAA vote

Thirteen of the 14 proposed Ohio High School Athletic Association Constitution and Bylaw revisions passed as voted upon by OHSAA member schools, Commissioner Daniel B. Ross, Ph.D., has announced.

Changes were approved to three Constitution items and 10 Bylaw items.

The bylaw issue that did not pass for the second consecutive year was a proposal to change how schools are assigned to tournament divisions in the team sports of football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball to address competitive balance.

OHSAA Board of Directors Meeting Highlights - May 10

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors met last Thursday morning in Columbus for its regularly scheduled May meeting. The following are highlights from the meeting. The complete set of meeting minutes will be posted at OHSAA.org.

- The Board approved the 2012-13 general sports regulations and the sport-by-sport regulations. Of note, the start date for football practice this fall is July 30 and all other fall sports begin practice on the first Monday in August, which is August 6.

Softball: Pirates pick up another NWC win at Delphos

The Lady Pirates picked up another conference win on Monday, as they traveled to Delphos to take on the Wildcats. The Pirates are now 4-2 in the NWC and 9-6 on the season.

Lead off batter Katie Palte got things started for the Pirates with a nice bunt and quickly rounded the bases to third on a Wildcat overthrow to first. Lauren Parkins was able to pick up the RBI as she was thrown out at first, putting the Pirates up 1-0.

NHL playoffs: Wings drop Game 3 at home

The Detroit Red Wings lost game three of their opening round series against the Nashville Predators on Sunday afternoon, giving Nashville a 2-1 series lead.

The Predators took an early lead, striking first less than three minutes into the game. Shea Weber collected and scored on a rebound that escaped Wings goalie Jimmy Howard and his teammates. The rest of the first went by pretty uneventfully and the Wings headed to the locker room down by a goal.
