Joseph to Lee 97-yard TD pass a record breaker; BHS stops Spencerville 30-0

Bluffton High School's football team celebrated its 2010 homecoming with a 30-0 win over Spencerville on Oct. 8.

The victory moved BHS to 4-3 overall. It included one play that enters the record books. Hunter Joseph tossed a 97-yard touchdown pass to Matt Lee in the second half. The play set a new school record for the longest touchdown pass. The previous record was a 95-yard pass from John Tabler to Jay Stratton set in 1982 versus Upper Scioto Valley.

Bluffton dominates at Riverdale Invitational

By Hannah Chappell-Dick

(P-G girls results at bottom)

On Sept. 30, the Bluffton cross country team walked out of the school and onto the bus. They drove to the Riverdale Invitational: an unusually large Thursday meet of about 10 schools.

In year's past, the course, while fast, has been hard and uneven. This year, however, two days of rain softened the ground and made it much more pleasant to race on. The flat course, beautiful fall weather, and the high number of competitors helped many Pirates lower their times.Bluffton

Bluffton girls' tennis team in sectional play

Bluffton High School's girls tennis team is participating in sectional action at UNOH today (Thursday).

Coach Peter Diller's team dropped a close 3-2 decision to Lima Bath Tuesday to finish the season with a 6-9 record. The match wasn't decided until a marathon contest at No. 1 doubles ended with the Wildkittens on top.

Ashlin Gable and Emily Sprague lost for only the second time this season in the deciding match, dropping one set in a tiebreaker and the third set 7-5 after leading 4-1.

By Hannah Chappell-Dick

Last Saturday, the Bluffton cross country teams travelled to Kalida to compete in the first ever Wildcat Invitational.

Only two days before, a victory for the girls at the Riverdale Invitational left many exhausted and happy, but the runners knew that they couldn't be satisfied just yet.
