Bluffton farmer's market opening day Saturday, May 7

The 2011 season of the Bluffton farmer's market begins on Saturday, May 7, in the Citizens National Bank parking lot, according to Peter Previte, market coordinator. Look for more information on The Icon next week about opening day information.

May 5 and 19 dates of next community meals

Two community meals are planned in May. Both are at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, at 6 p.m.

The May 5 meal is hosted by Ebenezer Mennonite Church. The May 19 meal is hosted by Mennonite Memorial Home. Meals are open to the public with no admission charge. Donations are accepted and go to the Bluffton Food Pantry.

Free boys' basketball clinic set May 28

Bluffton High School boys' basketball program is offering a parent/son clinic on Saturday, May 28, according to Todd Boblitt, BHS coach.

There is no cost to be held from noon to 2 p.m. in the middle school gym. The event will include skills, drills and fun competitions offered for boys, grades 3-6, and their parent by Boblitt.

"All you need is comfortable clothing and appropriate gym shoes. Hope to see you in the gym. For questions, call 419-358-4206," he added.

Pandora council considering addition to fire station

The village of Pandora received a quote from Golden Giant to construction an addition to the village fire station for $38.500. Stan Schneck, village administrator, informed council during its April 12 meeting.

Also brought up at the meeting was the Riley Township trustees interested in the building.

One possibility discussed by council is for the village to pay for the addition to the building and the trustees abate the village, paying for their share of fire department expenses for a specified length of time.

Two summer MS and HS soccer teams forming in Bluffton

Joel Steinmetz is entering two summer soccer teams for girls in middle school and high school into the Hogg Creek Soccer League (HCSL).

He said that HCSL has been established for six years and has grown every year.

"Most of the area schools (with girls' soccer) are involved. This will be Bluffton's first year and we intend to have two teams (HS and MS). Anyone interested should e-mail me as soon as possible. Girls from other school districts would also be invited," he said.
