Bluffton arch bridge

Imagine the scene: Bluffton in the 1890s. Specifically the cow pasture immediately west of Riley Street and north of Riley Creek. This colorized post card view shows Riley Creek from what today are condos belonging to Mennonite Memorial Home.

The bridge, called the arch bridge, was a single-lane structure made from local limestone. This was the spot where a young, unmarried couple might walk to in the evening to get away from the Bluffton crowd.

John McMinn accepts call as Bluffton Baptist Church pastor

John McMinn has accepted the call as pastor of Bluffton Baptist Church this winter, according to Dave Miller, chairman of the church deacons. Pastor McMinn replaces Steve Renfrow who pastored the church from its conception.

Apollo holds digital citizenship day April 1

Apollo Career Center will hold its first-ever digital citizenship day, Friday, April 1, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Apollo students will spend the day learning about the dangers, consequences, and the positives of their on-line activities.

Apollo believes that now, with the top three websites being Google, Facebook and YouTube, and the exploding use of smart phones, students need to learn responsible and productive use of these tools.

Super Hero Pooper Scooper newest Icon advertiser; their business is taking caring of your pet's dirty business

The Bluffton Icon's newest advertiser will do your dirty work for a reasonable price. Super Hero Pooper Scooper, a pet waste service, is expanding into Bluffton.

Doug Moneer, 341 Laney Ave., Lima, is offering the service. "The benefits from my service is that it saves busy pet owners' time and the hassle of cleaning up their pet's dirty business and it keeps yards maintained from pet waste."

Kelsea Kiene on University of Toledo dean's list

Kelsea Kiene, a pre-business administration major and a Bluffton High School graduate, was among more than 3,000 students from The University of Toledo who made the Fall 2010 Dean's List.

The Dean's List recognizes full-time undergraduate students who earn a 3.5 or above GPA for the semester.

Sophomore, junior and senior BHS honor students recognized at letter banquet

Sue Van Eman of Bluffton University was the featured speaker at the Bluffton High School Academic Letter banquet on March 22.

The academic letter is an effort on the part of the school to give more prominent recognition to outstanding students. In striving to encourage academic excellence, honor students should be made aware that their achievements are worthy of praise and recognition.
