Library host to several winter events

Say goodbye to the winter blues by participating in one or many fun events that Bluffton Public Library will host this season.

First, on Thursday, Feb. 10, from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Lois Benham of Scrapbooks in Lima, will present a handmade card workshop. Participants will make three handmade cards for friends or family this Valentine's Day. Samples of the cards are on display at the library. There is a $12 fee for supplies and individuals should bring a glue stick and scissors.

Dalkes celebrate 68th wedding anniversary Jan. 22

Former Bluffton residents Rev. Dan and Edna Dalke will celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary on Jan. 22 with a family dinner. On May 20 Rev. Dalke will commemorate 60 years since his ordination to the Christian ministry. He is presently serving as chaplain of the Pleasant View Nursing Home and Retirement Center at Inman, Kansas.

Communication will reach them at 701 Center St., # 73 Inman, KS 67546. The Dalkes were first residents in the Bluffton Ebenezer Mennonite Church's new parsonage, while he served as the church's pastor for 18 years from 1961-1979.

Civil rights activists illustrated further power of prayer at university forum

The most "potent tool" in the American civil rights movement's arsenal wasn't demonstrations or boycotts, or even Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or other charismatic leaders, but rather another source of power during those turbulent times, a Bluffton University audience heard Jan. 11.

In an unprecedented move, a grass-roots movement within the movement took the risk of using prayer to create crisis that caught political leaders' attention and ultimately brought change, said Dr. Tobin Miller Shearer, a University of Montana historian speaking at a Bluffton Forum.

2011 federal income tax filing deadline is April 18

RS Kicks Off 2011 Tax Season with Deadline Extended to April 18; Taxpayers Impacted by Recent Tax Breaks Can File Starting in Mid- to Late February

The Internal Revenue Service opened the 2011 tax filing season by announcing that taxpayers have until April 18 to file their tax returns. The IRS reminded taxpayers impacted by recent tax law changes that using e-file is the best way to ensure accurate tax returns and get faster refunds.

CNB Personal Payment now available through bill payment

Citizens National Bank recently introduced Personal Payment service, which enables customers to send and receive money securely and electronically in as little as one business day.
