Dr. Lisa Schirch gives Bluffton's Keeney Peace Lecture

Dr. Lisa Schirch, a professor of peacebuilding and founding director of the 3D Security Initiative at Eastern Mennonite University's graduate Center for Justice & Peacebuilding, will deliver Bluffton University's Keeney Peace Lecture on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Free and open to the public, her Bluffton Forum presentation, "Building Security from the Ground Up: How a Mennonite works with the U.S. military and Iraqi and Afghan community leaders to rethink U.S. strategy," will begin at 11 a.m. in Yoder Recital Hall.

5 Myles High - now you may hear them on The Icon

One of Bluffton's talents is music. But you already know that. We have a women's choir, several church choirs, school and university musical organizations, a couple street musicians in the summer. You get the idea. There's every sound in Bluffton from Bach to (fill in the latest popular group here).

Then, there's Bluffton's own 5 Myles High. It's a group including Krysti Schey, piano, Phil Schey, bass, Myles Bowers, trumpet and Sean McNeal, drums.

BVHS offering pain management seminar

Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) is offering a "Picture a Life with Less Pain" pain management seminar Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

The seminar is for men and women who want to learn how to live, work and play while minimizing pain.

Smith named board president; three seats will be up for re-election in November

Renee Smith will lead the Bluffton school board in 2011. Smith was elected board president at the Jan. 11 reorganization meeting. Three school board positions will be up for re-election in 2011. That information is at the bottom of this story.
