"Schiffbruchsgottesdienst!" and the Famous Dove

Members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, will observe the annual Shipwreck Remembrance on Sunday, Sept. 13.

The services, at 8 and 10:30 a.m. will give praise to the Lord for saving the lives of passengers on the “Famous Dove” when it was shipwrecked off the east coast of the United States on Sept. 17, 1831.

Many of the passengers coming from Germany were the founders of Trinity. During a terrible storm, the passengers prayed and sang hymns. The next morning, they saw that they were just off the coast of Virginia.
