Lots of activities take place at Bluffton High School this week and next. Here's a listing of events from the school website.

Spanish Club: Meet at Tu Pueblo Monday, March 31. All BHS students are welcome. Spanish Club will also wear their t-shirts on Thursday, April 3, for a yearbook photo.

Music Booster Spring Chicken BBQ & Concert: The Chicken/Shrimp BBQ & concert will be held on Friday, March 28, in the middle school cafetorium and gymnasium. Stop in  the Middle School office to purchase your tickets. Tickets are $8. 

Has winter run its course? During March 1-24, the area had 11 days with snow on the ground, according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

The Bluffton Senior Citizens Center and Lion’s Club Foundation are ready to serve you all the pancakes you can eat.

The 32nd annual pancake and sausage benefit is Saturday, March 29, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Senior Center, 132 N. Main St.

The meal includes all the pancakes you can eat, whole hog sausage, applesauce, and coffee, tea, milk or juice. Tickets are $6.50 and children through 5 years of age are free with a paying adult.

Organizers for the Bluffton-area Relay for Life have announced plans for this summer’s event, which take place Friday and Saturday, June 20-21, at Salzman Stadium, according to Lynda Best, chairperson.

Best told The Icon that the Relay has set a goal to raise $35,000.

In July 2013, the American Cancer Society decided to drop Bluffton as a Relay for Life site so that it could focus more on the county-wide events. As a result, the event held in Bluffton is now an independent, third-party program with 100 percent of the net funds raised going to the American Cancer Society.

It's the season for tree trimming. Here's an artistic view of that process taken of a worker in a tree on Lawn Avenue. It's a simple black on white photo technique that highlights the tree branches.

 

Galyna Korniyenko, a Ukrainian woman with Bluffton ties, will address the current situation in Ukraine in a talk on Wednesday (March 26) in the Kreider Room of Bluffton University’s Marbeck Center. Her lecture, scheduled to begin at 5:10 p.m., is free and open to the public.
